Come back home if you’ve done nothing wrong – Mahama publicly rebukes runaway Ofori-Atta

President John Dramani Mahama has launched a fierce public rebuke against former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, challenging him to return to Ghana and face justice if his conscience is clear.
Addressing a packed town hall meeting during his regional stakeholder engagement tour, President Mahama sharply criticized the former minister’s decision to contest his extradition from the United States.
He turned Ofori-Atta’s past rhetoric against him, reminding Ghanaians of how the former state official once compared himself to a protective parent.
“You stood before the nation and said you are like a father who cannot run away and leave his children behind.
If Ghanaians are truly your children, why have you run away? We are calling you to come back home. An innocent person does not flee from accountability,” Mahama declared to the cheering crowd.
The public tongue-lashing highlights the ongoing legal battle between Ghanaian authorities and the former finance chief.
Ofori-Atta remains in the United States under strict monitoring after being detained by immigration authorities earlier this year on an Interpol Red Notice.
While the U.S. government cleared Ghana’s extradition request, Ofori-Atta’s legal team continues to deploy aggressive legal maneuvers to block his forced return, utilizing his recently obtained permanent residency status.
Prez. Mahama concluded his remarks by stating that true state officials must be willing to defend their stewardship, emphasizing that the state’s ongoing efforts to repatriate Ofori-Atta are non-negotiable for ensuring absolute transparency in public financial management.
