Finance Minister-designate was evasive, inconsistent, and lacked clarity of thought – NPP alleges
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members in Parliament have expressed their displeasure about Finance Minister-designate, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson’s performance during his vetting on Monday, January 13, 2025
According to the NPP Minority Caucus, Dr Ato Forson was evasive, inconsistent, and lacked clarity of thought when answering questions posed to him by members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
Addressing some members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) at a press briefing at the Job 600 Office complex in Accra on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, a member of the committee, Dr Gideon Boako expressed disappointment in Dr Forson’s responses to critical issues.
“Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, who appeared as the Finance Minister-designate, was evasive, inconsistent, and lacked clarity of thought,” Dr Boako reiterated.
He was of the view that as a former Deputy Minister of Finance and a ranking member of the Finance Committee, Dr. Ato Forson should have demonstrated a higher level of preparedness and provided concrete solutions to pressing national concerns.
He highlighted the Minister-designate’s response to the government’s promise of covering the first-year academic user fees of tertiary students as particularly disappointing and disheartening.
“How can a Finance Minister-designate look into the faces of parents and young Ghanaian students and say that because he is not yet the Minister, he cannot answer whether the pledge by President Mahama to pay for their fees would be honoured.
This is a clear way of telling our tertiary students that the NDC party deceived them into voting for them,” Dr Boako said.
He called for greater accountability from Dr. Forson and the NDC government to fulfill their campaign promises to Ghanaians.
