NDC Oti Regional Women’s Wing donates 300 sanitary pads to girls in Nkwanta South

The Oti Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Paulina Magyam, has donated more than 300 packs of sanitary pads to adolescent girls in the Nkwanta South District in the Oti region.

The donation according to Madam Magyam is her outfit’s way of supporting adolescent girls in the region who cannot afford one.

The Oti Regional Women’s Organizer presenting the sanitary pads to the girls at the Nkwanta Senior High School, explained sanitary pads have become a necessity and not a luxury.

She also raised concerns about the cost of sanitary pads. Saying the high prices of this necessity for women and adolescent girls are making a lot of adolescent women and girls resort to unhygienic kinds of stuff during menstruation.

“The current economic crisis coupled with price hikes are creating lots of problems for adolescent girls and women in the region.

Due to the inability on the part of young adolescent girls and sometimes parents, most young girls in the region have become prone to sexual abuse”

Madam Magyam is, therefore, calling on the government to scrap taxes on sanitary pads.
