Diocese of Wa Catholic Church honours Speaker Bagbin for exemplary leadership

The Wa Diocese of the Catholic Church has honoured the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for his outstanding show of leadership grounded in wisdom and service, and for his lasting legacy.
The recognition was conferred on him during a special Eucharistic Celebration held in his honour at the Chapel of the Bishop of the Wa Diocese on January 30, 2026.
Delivering a sermon at the service, the Bishop of Wa Diocese, Most Rev. Francis Bomansaan, commended the Speaker for his exemplary statesmanship and deep commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged.
According to the Bishop of Wa Diocese, both the Upper West Region and Ghana as a whole are privileged to have a selfless servant leader and devoted Catholic serving as Speaker of Parliament.
A citation presented to Rt. Hon. Bagbin described him as “cast in the mould of a Christ-like leader,” praising his humility, integrity, love, and service.
The citation noted that in an era where truth and integrity are increasingly scarce in public life, the Speaker stands out as a beacon of honesty and moral leadership.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Bagbin expressed profound gratitude to the Church for the honour and appealed for continued prayers and spiritual guidance in the leadership of the country.
He acknowledged the pivotal role of the Catholic Church in Ghana’s development, particularly in underprivileged regions such as the Upper West.
The Speaker described the Church as a foundation of development in Northern Ghana and lauded its contributions to education and healthcare through the establishment and management of some of the region’s leading schools and health facilities.
He encouraged the Church to continue addressing both the spiritual and material needs of the underprivileged and reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting the positive initiatives of religious bodies and organisations across the country.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers led by the Bishop and a congregation of priests, invoking good health and God’s blessings upon the Speaker.
