Nungua traditional authority condemns forceful occupation of its Nmai Djor Lands by Trassaco and Okpelor Sowah Din Family

The Nungua Traditional authority, known as Nungua Stool, has condemned what it claims is the continuous unlawful invasion and forceful occupation of its Nmai Djor lands by the management of Trassaco, and Okpelor Sowah Din Family of Teshie, despite a pending stay of execution and existing court processes.

According to the custodians of the Nungua Stool, an illegal activity allegedly masterminded by Trassaco and Okpelor Sowah Din Family of Teshie on the Nmai Djor lands on Saturday, January 10, 2026, resulted in a violent shooting incident, which endangered lives and severely breached public peace and threatened security in the area.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Accra, the Nkpor Mantse of Nungua, Nii Borteyfio Borteykwei Afadi Nsuro, speaking on behalf of the Nungua Stool, revealed that the situation in Nmai Djor is very volatile and dangerous, and described it as wholly unacceptable in a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law.
“The situation is volatile, dangerous, and wholly unacceptable in a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law,” Nii Afadi Nsuro stated.
The Nungua Traditional Stool has thus issued what it describes as a final notice to Trasacco and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family of Teshie to desist from all alleged unlawful activities on lands at Nmai Djor, which it claims is an ancestral property of the Nungua Stool.
Nkpor Mantse of Nungua, Nii Afadi Nsuro, warned that the traditional authority would not hesitate to pursue “the full rigours of the law,” including criminal prosecution for fraud and contempt of court, to protect its lands.
The traditional authority expressed concern over what it described as attempts by unnamed political actors whose actions are emboldening the parties involved in the illegalities being perpetrated in defiance of ongoing court processes.
The Nungua Stool reiterated that there is a pending stay of execution and an appeal in the long-running Ashalley Botwe case (Suit No. L/2970/1993), as well as other related suits involving grantees of the Nungua Stool and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family.
It stressed that any entry, development, sale, or interference with the land while the matter remains before the courts amounts to contempt of court.
Nii Afadi Nsuro referenced a series of Supreme Court judgments which it said conclusively establish its allodial ownership of the Nmai Djor area, which includes the 2020 Supreme Court decision in Empire Builders Ltd v. Topkins Enterprises Ltd & Others, which affirmed the Nungua Stool’s ownership of a large tract of land in the area, as well as subsequent rulings that, according to the Stool, reaffirm the historical boundaries of Nungua lands and reject expansive claims by Teshie families.
“This statement serves as a final warning,” the Stool said. “All unlawful activities on Nungua Stool lands must cease immediately.”
In light of the rising tension and the reported presence of armed land guards, the Nungua Stool called on the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to intervene promptly to restore law and order at Nmai Djor and maintain peace pending the final determination of the matter by the courts.
The Stool reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful resolution of land disputes, stressing that such matters must be settled through the courts and not through force, intimidation, or political influence.
