68th Independence Day Anniversary: Govt announces activities to commemorate the event

The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has finalised the schedule of events for Ghana’s 68th Independence Day Anniversary. The commemoration will feature a series of activities to engage the public and honor the nation’s history and heroes.

The planned activities include:
-Commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident: The event will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025.
– Nationwide School Quiz Competition Finals: Scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025.
– Nationwide Debate Competition Finals: Set for Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
– President’s School Children Awards Programme: To be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
– Ceremonial Parade: This will occur at the forecourt of the Presidency on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
In preparation for the 28th February event, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will roll out informative and educational content for television, radio, and social media. This initiative aims to rekindle interest and participation among the youth and general populace in this significant national event while remembering and honoring Ghana’s heroes.
Key highlights of the 28th February event include:
– Sharing historical content on the events leading up to the 1948 shooting of three ex-servicemen.
– Hosting an X-space conversation on “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.”
– Encouraging radio, television, online, and print media to promote the anniversary theme and related activities to deepen public participation.
– Conducting a wreath-laying ceremony at Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on February 28, 2025. This event will be broadcast live and streamed on multiple platforms.
The NCPC encourages media, bloggers, and the public to actively participate by sharing information with their audiences. Further updates on the remaining activities will be provided at a later date.
