Sack Clerk of Parliament's Appointments Committee for alleged bias -Minority demand

The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament led by its leader, Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin is calling for the immediate resignation of Madam Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, Clerk of the Appointments Committee.

The Minority’s call comes on the back of the escalating tensions in Parliament, following recent chaotic vetting sessions

The New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus accuses the Clerk of the committee of being a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The group also accuses her of alleged favouritism and procedural misconduct during ministerial vetting sessions.

According to the Minority, Madam Jiagge-Gobah’s handling of committee proceedings has raised concerns about impartiality, with claims that she is advancing the interests of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Addressing members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC), Mr. Afenyo-Markin asserted that the clerk’s alleged bias was affecting the credibility of the vetting process.

“Her actions suggest she is working to favour the NDC. We will officially request that the Clerk to Parliament withdraw her from this role. She must either step aside or adhere strictly to the principles of neutrality.

The Minority again accused the Clerk of the Appointments Committee of procedural irregularities, claiming that vetting reports are now finalised without their input—an alleged departure from past practices when opposition MPs had the opportunity to review documents before they were submitted.

“Previously, the Minority was given access to draft reports before they were signed. That process has been disregarded, and now reports are completed without our knowledge, only surfacing on the floor of Parliament,” the Minority leader alluded.

He also raised concerns over what he described as last-minute scheduling changes, accusing the clerk of publishing vetting schedules at odd hours, making it difficult for Minority MPs to adequately prepare.
