Ghana steps up preparations for the 2023 Berlin Summer Olympics
Special Olympics Ghana has intensified its preparations for the upcoming 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany. The 10-day competition, which is meant for children with intellectual disabilities, starts from June 16–26, 2023, and will see Ghana compete in seven-aside football, table tennis, and athletics.
A total of 19 athletes are currently in residential camp at Tema Senior High School to smooth out all the rough edges ahead of the summer games.
Ghana has seen some enviable records in the games after her maiden appearance in Los Angeles in 2015, where the team won two silver medals in the 100m and 200m, as well as a dancing competition when the team only competed in athletics.
Ghana again won six gold medals in different disciplines in the 2019 edition, which was held in Abu Dhabi.
The Pan-African Special Olympics Games in Cairo in 2020 remain the last international competition Ghana has competed in, where they swept seven bronze medals.
It is anticipated that the right technical preparations the team is currently making will spur them on to win more medals than they have in previous tournaments.
