2,563 public servants' January salaries suspended for failing to undergo headcount exercise

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has suspended the salaries of 2,563 public servants.

This is because they failed to undergo a headcount exercise undertaken earlier.

“The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD)1 wishes to inform all Government of Ghana employees on the National Payroll managed by the CAGD that salaries for January 2026 have been paid. However, on the recommendation of the Auditor-General, salaries of 2,563 personnel have been suspended for failing to present themselves during the nationwide headcount exercise conducted across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in 2025 by the Ghana Audit Service,” a press release dated January 30 indicated.

It explained that ” Personnel who did not receive their salaries for January are urged to contact the Ghana Audit Service promptly for necessary clearance. Those affected must ensure their employment status is verified to guarantee reinstatement of their salaries.”

The CAGD assured the general public of its continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and the timely payment of salaries in accordance with established Public Financial Management Laws.
