Parliament Petitioned over derogatory remarks made against Dr. Zanetor Rawlings by Abu Jinapor

A group of concerned Klottey Korle Constituents has petitioned Ghana’s Legislature over alleged derogatory remarks made against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings by Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo Constituency in the Savanna region.
The concerned Klottey Korle constituents stormed Parliament today, Wednesday, 6th February 2025 to present a petition demanding action from the Parliamentary Service against the Damongo lawmaker for his alleged unsavory words used to describe the Klottey Korle MP.
Mr. Abu Jinapor was said to have described Dr. Zenator Agyemang Rawlings, the first child of Late Former President J. J. Rawlings as “Daughter of a Murderer”.
On February 4, 2025, while the Minority leader Mr. Alexander Kwame Afenyo Markin, was on his feet talking, Dr. Zenator Rawlings stood up to catch the Speaker’s eye for a point of order, but her action didn’t go down with the minority side thus prompting the Damongo MP, to yell at her saying “Daughter of a murderer, sit down.”
This alleged act by Mr. Abu Jinapor seems to not sit well with some members of Dr. Zenator Rawlings’s constituency hence they petition Parliament.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation sent to present the petition, the Constituency Secretary for Klottey Korle, Mr. Eugene Eshun-Elliot expressed deep concern over the disrespect directed at Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, stressing the need to uphold dignity and decorum within the political landscape.
They emphasized that Parliament should set the standard for professionalism and respect and that any form of verbal attack on members should not be tolerated.
The delegation urged the Speaker to launch a thorough investigation into the matter, ensuring that those behind the derogatory remarks are held accountable.
They also called for proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, advocating for a culture of unity and civility in the House.
“We must foster an environment where all members, regardless of political affiliation, treat each other with mutual respect. Parliament should be a space for constructive debate, not personal attacks,” he stated.
The petitioners reiterated their demand for accountability, stressing that upholding high ethical standards is crucial in maintaining public trust in Parliament.
They also urged the leadership of the House to take decisive action against wrongdoers to safeguard the integrity of the legislative body.
He concerned Klottey Korle constituents called for swift intervention from the Speaker to address the issue and take appropriate disciplinary measures against those responsible for the offensive comments.
The petition was received by the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, on behalf of the Speaker.
