John Mahama re-echoes readiness to set up Ministry of Youth Development if elected President
The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has re-echoed his readiness to create a separate ministry to cater for youth development if elected president in the upcoming December elections.
Addressing the audience at Wisconsin International University College in Accra, during a special public lecture dubbed “An Interaction with Students and Faculty of WIUC-Ghana,” the NDC’s 2024 flagbearer explained that his proposed Ministry of Youth Development will serve as a focal point for coordinating policies, programs, and initiatives tailored to meet the diverse needs of Ghanaian youth.
“This proposal ministry is also geared towards addressing the multifaceted challenges facing young people in the country while harnessing their potential for sustainable development,” he added.
Mr. Mahama raised concern over the surge in unemployment rates in Ghana, citing a recent figure from the Ghana Statistical Service, which is pegged at 14.7 percent, as worrisome.
He called on stakeholders to find immediate solutions in order to create sustainable job opportunities for the teeming youth.
“The disproportionate impact on tertiary-educated individuals should be a matter of concern for all of us, as a substantial segment of the unemployed populace are tertiary leavers.”
