Davis Ansah Opoku snubs Mahamudu Bawumia again, throws support behind Bryan Acheampong

One of the few New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) who, from day one, have not supported Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the party in the 2024 general elections, MP for Mpraeso Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Davis Ansah Opoku, has once again rejected the calls by some MPs to support Bawumia’s bid for 2028.

Mr. Ansah Opoku has openly thrown his support behind Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s anticipated bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, describing him as a leader with the right vision and capabilities to move Ghana forward.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV‘s current affairs programme “Citiuation Room” on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Mpraeso lawmaker described Dr. Acheampong, who currently serves as MP for Abetifi, as a visionary leader with the ability to mobilise the right human capital to drive development.

“Bryan Acheampong possesses what it takes to move Ghana forward, and he’s got the ability to marshal resources in terms of the human capital needed to move Ghana forward. He’s got a clearer vision, which very soon we are planning to let Ghanaians know, and also most especially to the NPP delegates to consider him at the next polls,” Mr. Ansah Opoku reiterated.

According to him,  while the official announcement is yet to be made, Dr. Acheampong is determined to contest the party’s upcoming flagbearer race, adding that internal consultations are ongoing, and Ghanaians will hear directly from the Abetifi MP and a former Agric minister very soon.

“I think that the committee is finalising its report, but I can confidently tell you that he is determined to contest, and very soon the Ghanaian people will hear from him.

I can tell you Bryan is determined to contest, and very soon we will hear from Channel One TV, Bryan himself speaking to the Ghanaian people,” the Mpraeso lawmaker stated emphatically.
