Tension mounts in Garu NDC… Youth Groups up in arms against MP over poor and nepotistic leadership

A youth group in the Garu constituency of the Upper East Region, which identified itself with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), is up in arms against the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Dr Thomas Winsum Anaba.

The youth group in a peaceful protest described the MP’s tactics as discriminatory and poor leadership style as worrisome.

According to them, Dr Anaba has not been balanced in the distribution of political appointments in the area.

Addressing the media at a press conference in Garu on Monday 2nd June, 2025, the outraged NDC youth group cited numerous incidents including the awarding of school feeding programme contracts, and reported attempts by the MP to reappoint someone as the Garu District YEA director after one Thomas Tampuri Wennam was appointed few weeks ago and has resumed work.

They accused the Garu lawmaker of working with only those who supported him during the party’s parliamentary primaries.

The group has, however, called on the National and Upper East regional executives of the NDC to call their Member of Parliament to order before things escalate.

“We call on the National and regional executives of the party to call Dr Anaba to order to desist from running a parallel administration,” they reiterated.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr. John Abugba Abaare, has debunked the assertions by the youth group that the current tension regarding appointments and awarding of Ghana School Feeding contracts should be placed at the doorsteps of the MP

According to him, if there is anybody or a group of people to be blamed, then the NDC Garu constituency executives are the right people to be held accountable for the misunderstanding and tension in the area.
