Splashing dollars: Minority rubbishes claims that Sammy Gyamfi did no wrong…Says his opulence display is a naked betrayal of public trust

The Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Ghana’s Parliament has watered down claims by a section of the public who say they see no wrongdoing in the splashing of United States dollars by the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), who doubles as the National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, on a fetish priestess, turned evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
According to the group it’s ridiculous for anyone to say that the Acting CEO of GOLDBOD did no wrong with the opulence, and naked betrayal of public mandate he displayed.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is ridiculous to suggest that Sammy Gyamfi did no wrong with the opulence and naked betrayal of public mandate,” the Minority reiterated.
The group is thus calling for the immediate suspension of Mr. Gyamfi, following the circulation of a viral video in which he is seen handing over an undisclosed amount of US dollars to a fetish priestess turned evangelist.
Although, the acting CEO has issuing an apology less than 48 hours of the incident, and subsequent summons by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, over the issue, the Minority group is of the view that, Mr. Gyamfi, should be suspended while the matter is investigated to unearth the source of the money.
Addressing some members of the Parliamentary Press Corps at a press conference held on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Walewale and a member of the Finance Committee, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, who spoke on behalf of the minority, urged the President to act swiftly.
The minority is calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi as acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. This is upfront on the Code of Conduct, it is against the Forex Exchange Act and also against the Currency Act.
Even though the Chief Justice mentioned that ignorance of the law is no excuse, Sammy Gyamfi is not ignorant of the law.
He is a lawyer of high repute and understands clearly the consequences of this action. So, he ought to take responsibility for the same,” he stated.
The Walewale lawmaker also called for a thorough probe into the source of the foreign currency involved in the incident.
“We call for a full investigation into the source of the dollars displayed in the viral video,” he added.
