Stop funding OSP, it has been ineffective in tackling corruption – Manhyia South MP

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffuor Awuah, has called for the suspension of funding of the activities of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to the Manhyia South lawmaker, the OSP has been ineffective in tackling corruption and is advocating for the budgetary allocation for the OSP to be redirected to the Office of the Attorney General.
Nana Baffuor Awuah during a debate on the 2025 budget estimate of 146 million Ghana Cedis for the OSP, contends that after nearly eight years after the establishment of the anti-graft office has failed to secure a single conviction, while the Attorney General’s office and the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) have successfully prosecuted multiple corruption cases.

The Manhyia South MP, who is also a member of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, called for reassessment of the office’s mandate and performance.
“It’s been eight years since its establishment, almost, and there hasn’t been one conviction by that office. Mr. Speaker, by its documents that it brought to the committee, the agency now has only three criminal cases pending.
When you go through what he presented to the committee, you hardly see much of its work focused on the work of the Auditor General.
It has become necessary for us to review the Office of the Special Prosecutor. Mr. Speaker, I think that if that money is given to the Attorney General, he will do a better job,” the Manhyia South lawmaker argued forcefully.
