Good news: WAPCo to resume Gas supply to Tema as it’s on track to meet March 2 deadline

Management of the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) says it will soon resume Gas supply to the Tema enclave as it’s on track to meet the March 2 deadline
The company announced at a press briefing at its site in Tema Industrial Area, that 70% of its ongoing maintenance works have been completed, thus bringing the company closer to resuming gas supply to Tema.
The maintenance project, which includes an offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise known as pigging, was initially scheduled for February 3, 2025, and is expected to be fully completed by March 2, 2025.
Addressing the journalists, the Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for Western Operations, Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, reassured the general public of the company’s commitment to meeting the deadline.
“Looking at the travel distance and what we communicated, we believe that we should be able to complete this exercise before 2nd March. We’re within schedule and we believe that until something happens – but based on what we’ve seen we’re making progress.
We hope to resume supply to Tema, and also Lomé. We’ll still have to carry out some activities to the Cotonou lateral. Because of the Tema job, the vessel will move to Cotonou. Cotonou we’re doing an inspection, we run several pigs, about six of them. So Cotonou will not be able to resume, on 2nd March. We are looking at either 5th or 7th March. But for reverse flow and Tema, we should be ready before 2nd March,” he stated.
Engineer Owusu Ayeh explained that the maintenance works are crucial to ensuring the efficiency and safety of the gas pipeline, which plays a key role in Ghana’s energy supply.
