Hannah Bissiw grabs juicy appointment…Now Administrator of Minerals Development Fund

The Women’s Organiser, of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw, has been appointed as the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Bissiw is a former Member of Parliament for Tano South in the Brong Ahafo Region and currently serves as the NDC’s National Women’s Organizer.

Born in Techimantia in the Brong Ahafo Region, Dr. Bissiw attended Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School before earning a scholarship to study in Cuba. She graduated as a Veterinary Doctor in 1999.

After returning to Ghana, she worked in veterinary hospitals and participated in Ghana-Cuba collaboration projects.

She entered active politics in 2008, serving on the NDC Manifesto Committee.

She later became Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing (2009), Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, and MP for Tano South (2012–2017).

As Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, Dr. Bissiw is expected to oversee the allocation of resources to mining communities, ensuring transparency and efficiency in funding distribution.

The MDF, established by Act 912 and passed by Parliament in March 2016, aims to provide a reliable and predictable source of funding for development initiatives in mining communities.

The Fund’s mandate includes providing financial resources to directly benefit mining communities, landowners, traditional and local government authorities within these communities, and institutions responsible for Ghana’s mining development.
