Supreme Court to hear NDC’s challenge to results collation order January 23
The Supreme Court is set to hear the National Democratic Congress case seeking to overturn a High Court order that directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate outstanding parliamentary election results on January 23, 2025.
The High Court presided over by Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, granted a mandamus application on Saturday, January 4, filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This ruling instructed the EC to complete the collation of results for Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies and declare the winners.
Speaking to Channel One News, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, explained that the party’s earlier suit to halt the collation exercise was adjourned indefinitely because the NPP had not been properly served.
“We went to court on Monday, and the judge indicated the NPP candidates were not properly served, and therefore the bailiff and our lawyers must find means of serving them so that the matter can be heard properly. So based on that, it was adjourned indefinitely until they were properly served. So that’s where we have reached out on the matter.
“But we have the certiorari one which is filed at Supreme Court coming on January 23, where we are telling the Supreme Court to quash the decision of the trial judge who ruled on the matter on the faithful day, the last time we were in court that gives the Electoral Commission the chance to go ahead with that illegal activity they were doing. So, we would be in Supreme Court on the 23rd to argue our case on that matter,” he stated.
