Parliament  appoints Ebenezer Djietror as the new Clerk of the House

Ghana’s House of Legislature has appointed Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror as the new Clerk to Parliament.

The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Service Board in November 2024, following interviews with three deputy clerks for the position.

Mr. Djietror’s appointment comes ahead of the retirement of the current Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, who will reach the compulsory retirement age of 60 on February 2, 2025.

A seasoned lawyer and one of the longest-serving procedural clerks in the parliamentary service, Mr Djietror has held various roles, including Clerk at the Table of the House and clerk to several key committees such as Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Business, Judiciary, and Foreign Affairs.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Eighth Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who also chairs the Parliamentary Service Board, has issued an appointment letter to Mr Djietror, who will officially begin his duties on January 1, 2025. As a result, Mr. Nsiah will begin his annual leave on December 31, 2024.

Mr Djietror is set to oversee the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the Speaker on January 7, 2025. With his extensive experience and expertise, he is expected to efficiently manage parliamentary proceedings.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker is expected to formally announce Mr. Djietror’s appointment to Parliament before the House rises for the Christmas break.
