Election 2024: PPP sues EC over the disqualification of its aspirant from 2024 presidential race
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has filed a lawsuit against the electoral management body, the Electoral Commission (EC) over the disqualification of its flagbearer, Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, from the 2024 presidential race slated for December.
The managers of the electoral management body disqualified Mr. Asamoah-Siaw and 10 others from the 2024 presidential race.
The EC explained that the presidential aspirants were disqualified from participating in the December 7, 2024, elections due to their failure to correct errors on their nomination forms without stating the particular errors to be corrected.
The PPP and its presidential aspirant, Mr. Asamoah-Siaw are praying to the court for an order to quash a letter dated September 20, 2024, under the authorship of the EC Chairperson, preventing him from contesting the presidential election.
According to the party, there was not a single error identified or pinpointed by the EC to adequately inform the party of the nature of the error to enable them to effect the possible and necessary corrections.
“That it is inconceivable that the same respondent who earlier identified specific errors in the applicant’s nomination forms and enabled the applicant to correct same this time round could not pinpoint which further errors there were, so the applicant could be allowed to effect necessary amendment or alteration under the law,” a part of the motion on notice further stated.
