Black Stars defender Djiku cleared after betting ban

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku will be eligible for selection for Strasbourg as they face Paris-Saint Germain in Ligue 1 on Wednesday, December 28.

Djiku was banned by the French Football Federation authorities following an investigation into sports betting among players in French Football.

He was among 76 players and officials who flouted the code of conduct regarding players’ involvement in sports betting and were sanctioned.

He was given a one-match ban.

“These offences were committed even though, together, the LFP and the UNFP (the players’ union) have carried out awareness or information campaigns with the clubs on a daily basis,” wrote the LFP in a press release.

“The Commission recalls that the actors of the competitions organized by the FFF or the LFP (in particular the players, coaches, managers of professional football clubs) have a general ban on betting, online or in physical networks, on all football competitions, whether domestic or foreign,” the official statement read.

But Strasbourg appealed the decision and it has been overturned.

Therefore, the club’s Vice Captain will be available for selection by manager Julien Stephan.

The Black Stars defender has made 14 appearances for his club. He played two games at Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
