Ghana has never held state burials for dead musicians – Smart Nkansah
Celebrated highlife artist Smart Nkansah has said no deceased musician in Ghana has ever gotten a state burial. The experience highlife artist was in the same musical band as the late AB Crentsil.
Reacting to the death of AB Crentsil, Smart Nkansah told Larry the Oldman on Onua FM’s Anigye mmere entertainment show that the dead highlife musician deserved a state burial.
“AB Crenstil deserves a state burial. But the government will not do it for him. No musician in Ghana has gotten a state burial ever,” he said.
When propelled to explain his stance, he said, “The government over the years has only supported the family of deceased artistes in their funeral organizations. What they did for Jewel Ackah, Paapa Yankson, and CK Mann was never a state burial, and they can attest to that.
“What they’ve done for our dead can never be likened to state burial. When you are given seven gun salutes, that’s when the state has properly buried someone. Even Nana Ampadu’s burial, we’ve been fighting for him to be buried by the state,” he concluded.
