24-Hour Economy Policy: Comprehensive national strategy designed to drive inclusive economic growth -Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced has hinted that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagship 2024 electioneering campaign promise the 24-Hour Economy policy has officially transitioned from a campaign sloganeering into a comprehensive national strategy designed to enhance productivity and drive inclusive economic growth.

Speaking at the official launch of his administration’s flagship policy in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Accra International Center, President Mahama recounted how the concept captured national attention in 2024, resonating widely as a symbol of hope and possibility.

“We have moved from slogan to strategy today. In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and that it was possible,” he said.

President Mahama stressed that while the policy launch marked a milestone, the real test lies ahead in its successful implementation.

“Our task now is to ensure that the necessary change is with the implementation. This launch is not the end, but it is the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” the President reiterated.

Addressing misconceptions surrounding the policy, President Mahama clarified that the 24-Hour Economy initiative is not simply about extending work hours, but about unlocking productivity across key sectors and creating more opportunities for Ghanaians.

“Let me be clear here, the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” he added.

The 24-Hour Economy policy is a cornerstone of the Mahama administration’s economic vision and is expected to promote job creation, stimulate investment, and strengthen Ghana’s global competitiveness.
